On December 12th, 2024, Porto hosted an event that addressed the challenges and opportunities of circularity and internationalization in the textile and apparel industry (ITV) for 2025. Organized by CENIT, the free event, with mandatory registration, brought together experts and industry companies with the aim of preparing the sector for a more sustainable and innovative future, presenting trends that will shape the market over the next 12 months.
The opening session was led by Luís Hall Figueiredo, president of CENIT, and featured several presentations from industry experts. Rui Martins, director at INOVAFIL, was one of the main speakers, addressing innovations in yarns and how they can contribute to a more circular and sustainable textile industry.
In addition to Rui Martins, the event also featured Dolores Gouveia, consultant at Woolmark, who revealed the applications and trends of wool, and Patrícia Soares da Costa, consultant at Marquinista, who discussed consumer behavior regarding sustainable fashion.
The morning culminated in a roundtable discussion, where all participants debated the topic “What to Expect from Circularity in 2025?”, exploring expectations and strategies for the coming years.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to the internationalization of the textile industry, with presentations showing how sustainability and circularity can drive Portuguese fashion in global markets. Marlene Oliveira, head of the international unit at CENIT, addressed the internationalization of the apparel and fashion industry, while Hermano Rodrigues, principal at EY-Parthenon, discussed how sustainability can be a driver for expanding borders. The session concluded with a presentation by Juliana Teixeira, business unit manager at Market Access, on internationalization and open innovation.
